It is confusing in English and other languages because the numbers 11 to 19 have their own names that don’t reflect place value. This requires extra processing steps in the brain to convert from the abstract names to the number values. Some languages, like Mandarin, use explicit number naming for counting to twenty, and this makes it easier for brains to process doing calculations. Mathcounting renames the numbers from 11 through 19 in a way that makes sense so that it is easier to do calculations and learn math.

one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, ten-one, ten-two, ten-three, ten-four, ten-five, ten-six, ten-seven, ten-eight, ten-nine, two-ten is twenty.
